sandblasted redwood signs
We create our sandblasted redwood signs from only the best grade vertical grain Redwood. We inspect and even test blast each piece as we laminate them together to make the panel so that there is a smooth transition of grain from one piece to the next. That way we don't get any sudden glaring changes on the sign.
Not many sign companies on the eastern seaboard still sandblast and rout real redwood. For one thing, it's difficult to get hold of.
By that, I mean "old growth, all-heart, clear, vertical grain redwood". There are quite a few that sandblast construction grade redwood, but that has very little to do with the real thing.
Beware
"New growth redwood actually grows faster than pine; pine rots very quickly when open to the elements. The lower quality grades of redwood will rot very quickly. Old Growth heart redwood whether its vertical grain or not should last at least 25+ years. Properly painted 35-50 years. I have seen construction grade redwood rot in 7 years".
We still have good supplies of both old-growth all-heart clear vertical grain redwood and clear cedar as well as "A & Better " cedar all of which are acceptable grades for signage.
If Redwood is what you want we can get it for you and produce a well-designed and expertly crafted sign. But it is quite expensive these days. Cedar is always a good alternative. and if you want the look and longevity without the heavy expense ask us about HDU.
